Setting The Distance

Jay looked at his family and narrowed his eyes. Of course he had been through hell before but this...this was something else. He needed to be precise to get his family away safely. Those people, not people, animals were the most disgusting creatures he had ever come across.  "Listen to me carefully. I'm going to take the car, and we're going to get as far as we can go before setting off on foot once we have guns." He slowly narrowed his eyes. "Genie, Emery, and Nathan. You're twenty-two, but your age I was already coming up with my own ideas. I need you three to focus. You need to get to that car as soon as I give you the okay."  He looked at the distraught Genie who was having a difficult time focusing since the death of their mother.
"Genie you need to stop crying and put yourself together. One loss is enough I need you to keep your head up." He looked out the window at two figures. They were both wearing bandanna's over their mouths, and enough clothing to cover any part of their body that was exposed. 
They looked insane and for some odd reason, he felt as if he knew who it was. It could be none other than the psychos Ben, and Ashlee. They weren't afraid of something like this. If anything, it filled their blood lust and probably drove them more insane than the diseased themselves. 
Well, not really, but they were sadistic in those ways.  
Drawing his attention back to his family he got up and nodded to them before slipping out and into the car. After gesturing to them it was clear  he unlocked the doors and waited.

Nathan made sure his sisters got out before running after them. He looked around feeling as if they were being watched. For the most part, they were.

"Uhh," Alisha stuttered as the girl walked in unannounced. She looked at the girl's hair color and slowly shook her head. "Nope, sorry."

"Right. Sorry." Briar concluded and slowly began tot urn away but paused and returned. "Are you alone?" She asked glancing around the room. "You look like you've been here a while."

Alisha nodded and began to rub her forehead between her index finger and thumb. "Yeah," she replied after a short pause. "I'm not much of a people person."

"Good, prove it." Jordan said and crossed her arms.

"How do I prove it?" Chase asked quietly and looked at Koda who had stopped her crying.

"I think I could've guessed that." Briar teased. "Sorry if I'm bothering you, I've been looking for my friend."

"Figure it out." Jordan sighed.

"No worries," Alisha told her and let her hand fall down onto the arm rest of the couch. "I'm Alisha, by the way."

"Oh I'm Briar." Briar responded and nodded to her with a small grin.

Chase walked over to her and looked down at Koda. "I never got to tell you that she uh, looks like you."

"Nice to meet you," Alisha replied and leaned back in her seat and rested the nape of her neck on the top of the couch cushion. "So you live here?" She asked and lowered her gaze onto Briar.

"I know." Jordan nodded and sighed.

Briar shook her head. "My best friend does but I can't find her Im worried."

Chase hugged Koda to him then passed her back over to Jordan as she began to whine.

Alisha nodded slowly yet understandingly. "She'll be back," she assured, "best friends don't usually leave best friends behind."

"You don't know Rory then." Briar mumbled and sat beside her.

Alisha looked over at Briar and slowly raised her left eyebrow. "No, I don't. Actually, I only just met you five minutes ago."

"Right." Briar said a bit weirded out by her being a bit too literal and got up. "So I guess I should leave you alone then?"

Alisha relaxed her brow and straightened her posture as Briar got up to leave. Touchy, touchy, she thought to herself and shook her head. "I didn't say that, I just don't know a Rory so I'm not really a help to your investigation." Though she was initially tired, she was quickly growing restless and anxious to get out of the apartment. "Say, I could help you look for her," Alisha offered.

"Sure you probably know the place better than me." Briar shrugged and stuck her hands in her pockets as she began to walk on.

"Alright," Alisha agreed and rose from her seat on the couch and began walking ahead of Briar. "So tell me about her. Is she like a party girl or more of a secluded person?"

"Secluded. She hates people the only guy she has ever been with was this guy Chase. Since you live in the apartment building I think you might know him?" Briar asked glancing at her.

"The name doesn't ring a bell," Alisha replied and continued to walk down the hall. "Do you think she would be in his apartment?"

"Not his, I think well his baby mama's. I mean we could check." Briar said and slowly walked in opening the door only to find Chase tonguing down the blonde chick. "Um."

Alisha glanced inside the apartment and quickly began to walk away. "So where else could she be?"

Briar backed of a bit and frowned looking at her. "Well if she knows about this, as far as she can go."

Chase looked at Briar as she noticed him and Jordan together and exhaled.

Alisha frowned and shrugged, "Maybe she just went out for some air."
