Overwhelming Nights

Cece sat in the sand with Isa and Spencer playing with their hair gently while watching over her sons as they played. Now that everything had been built and the other islanders were sent off, everything had become more silent. No one had had the mouths to raise their voices when the emptiness among them lurked.
"James." She called to him.

Jay wondered through the giant hut and exhaled. Without his family there was no need for them to have this much space. He made his way up on a ladder and hopped into what would've been there room. Shaking his head he climbed down and walked off to the forest and climbed as high as he could. "Dawn!" He shouted listening to the echo of his voice and hoping for a response.

Mason stood up with his hands on the wall and tilted his head listening to different sounds. His hearing had been slightly more powerful recently making him turn his head and stare in awe.

Spencer woke up and rolled off the bed with a groan.

Mason sat down and began to wait for Spencer to come find him.

Spencer trudged out of the hut to go find Mason by the water.

Hearing her walk along, Mason got to his feet and began to walk over to her slightly more enthusiastic about her appearance today.

"This better be good." Spencer warned.

"I think so." Mason said and caught up to her then took her hand and guided her into the forest until they reached vines. He grabbed hold of one and tugged it then began to climb up.

Spencer watched him oddly. "What are you doing?"

Once he was nearly thirty feet up he stopped and jumped over to another vine catching it easily.

Spencer watched from below in awe.

"Come on you can do it." Spencer said holding his hand out to her from where he was just hanging by only one hand.

Spencer slowly took his hand, unsure about this.

"Come on. Just use your hands and climb." Mason said and gently let her go and began to climb up high.

Spencer sighed and followed him up the vine. "Why are we doing this again?"

Mason randomly threw himself onto another vine recklessly and kept doing it over and over again getting further from her.

"Hey wait!" Spencer wined and slowly began to swing herself from vine to vine, following after him.

As the line of vines ended, Mason launched himself anyway. Rather than hitting the hard ground, he landed in a small lake.

Spencer finally caught up to him just as he jumped in the lake and shook her head. "Oh no, no, no. I'm not doing that."

Mason shook his head and waded in the water. "Spencer, trust me."

"I can't" Spencer said and clung tightly to the vine.

"Yes you can just please trust me." Mason begged.

Spencer slowly swung herself into the water with a scream. Immediately she clung to him.

Mason watched her and slowly began to swim to the edge. He gestured for her to follow as he walked back and noticed the group gathered with supplies.

"Come on, Mas." Benjamin said. He said and climbed into the boat followed by a few others.

"What's going on?" Spencer asked as she swam up beside him.

"I guess we're leaving. Come on." Mason told her.

Spencer took his hand and nodded. "Ok."
