Dusting The Memories

After a year things had managed to drastically fall around everyone. Benjamin himself had been watching cautiously but while everyone lost their heads he had managed to build a fortress out of his home. His roof was where he was the eye in the sky, his home, well the one he and Ashlee's shared was now the only sanctuary. Of course he wasn't the only one with the idea of a homey fortress, Jay had mimicked his actions as did a few others but some of their plans had not gone all well. A good example was Alex. The tough guy couldn't even manage to keep his girl and daughters safe. He had to save their asses, something he almost regretted doing, then offer them sanctuary in his own home. He didn't mind him around for bait though.
Others like James who just stuck around was fine with him. He was his best friend anyway.
For a murderer, the walkers were a joke. Those who had once never drove a knife through a body were now doing it daily simply for survival. Despite it being overrated he still enjoyed his time out. He walked down stairs and into his room to glance over at the crib where his one week old son rested. Things were getting tough with the supplies running low nearby. He needed a scavenger hunt for more supplies and soon.

James rolled his eyes. "Which they obviously are."

"Actually I've been running low on supplies." Jay answered. "The kids are getting hungrier."

Alex frowned. "I don't know how to help you there man."

"I can help." James offered, stepping forward. "I already got Alex and Benjamin's families some supplies, I can make another quick run."

"I have another big favor. Do you think you guys can take Dawn, Nathan, Genie, and Emmy in?" Jay responded. "I haven't felt to well..."

Alex frowned. "What's making you sick?"

James blinked in surprise and quickly scanned what parts of Jay's body he could see.

"I don't know." Jay caught James analyzing and huffed. "I ain't bit."

Alex sighed. "We'll get you some medicine."

James shrugged. "Just making sure." he replied, glancing at Genie and Nathan before turning to Alex. "Take them back to Ben's place, I'll look after Jay."

"Let me tag along." Alex told him sternly. "I'm not useless."

Jay scoffed as if that were a joke before quieting down under his older brothers glare.

"I didn't say you were, I just figured you would want to see your nieces and nephew to safety." James explained.

"I will when im finished delivering supplies before Ben throws a fit. That guy is unpredictable. Crazy." Alex said shaking his head before making his way over to the door. "We need to find double the supplies for Ben to even think about letting anyone else stay. He's been edgy since his son was born."

"Ben a father huh? Who would have though." Jay commented.

"Not a father, more like the sperm-doner." James joked, taking the lead with his pocket knife out, prepared to defend himself. "We'll try the pharmacy first, it wasn't completely cleared out this morning. The grocery stores are packed with panicking people, so if we can we need to find one that's less known."

"How are we getting there?" Alex asked now more serious. "I hope not by foot it's dangerous."

"What world do you think we live in exactly?" Jay asked.

"Do you own a car?" James snorted. "Of course by foot. You can handle yourself, you're a grown man now."

Alex returned a blank expression before moving the curtain to point at his car just in front of his house.

James blinked. "Well nevermind then."

Alex tossed him the keys. "You drive since you know where it is but don't mess up my baby." He warned and began to make his way out to the car.

Jay pat James back. "Good luck. I appreciate this."

Emery began to throw up all over her room as she cried out for her father.

Jay darted upstairs as he heard Emery and immediately frowned and scooped her up. "It's okay Emmy." He said and walked over to the bathroom and took her clothes off then put her in there. He sighed a bit feeling a fever come on. "Dawn." He called.

Emery continued to cry and cling to her father.

"What?" Dawn groaned and walked into the bathroom.

"Can you give her a bath?" Jay asked as he closed the lid to the toilet and sat down to watch them. "I just don't feel well and she threw up.

Dawn groaned and slowly went over to pry Emery away and set her in the tub to run the warm water over her. "You owe me." She told him.

Jay rubbed his eyes tiredly. "I've been too sick." He told her quietly. "I'm sending you and the kids to Ben's place in case."

"No you're not." Dawn snapped and looked at him. "We are in this together Jay, you can't just send us away when you want."

Jay scowled. "We are but when I know what's best for my family I'm going to do it. I'm not risking getting any of you sick." He glanced over at Emery. It had already been to late for her so he'd just have to hope the medicine James brought would do them good.

"Our family. We work as a team or not at all." Dawn retorted. "I know what's best, and staying together is best."
